Starflam compounds have been used for decades in many E&E applications requiring high performance in terms of flame and electrical properties. Anyhow, compliance with the IEC 60335-1 standard for Household Appliance Applications has always been challenging to achieve due to stringent GWIT (Glow Wire Ignition Temperature, IEC 60695-2-13) requirements. As a results, many halogen flame retardant solutions are still in use for applications requesting to pass this standard. For the first time, E2P is proposing a new innovative solution to the market in order to help household appliance manufacturers to switch to a 100 % Halogen Free solution.
As such, E2P has developed “”, a new halogen-free flame retardant compound, 30 percent glass-filled, easy-molding polyamide 6 with outstanding fire resistance in glow wire tests. This grade is based on a new flame retardant synergy enabling to outperform current market solutions by showing GWIT value of 800°C exceeding the well-known “775°C” standard requirements. This new technology is based on a halogen free, red phosphorous free, zinc borate and antimony trioxide free and is fully compliant with restrictions of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) and Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) directives.
