Starflam ECO-FR compounds, Flame retardant Polyamide (PA)

Manufactured by Eurostar Engineering Plastics Starflam grades comply with

the vaste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE) and the Restriction of

Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS) 2002/95/EC.

Starflam® ECO-FR compounds, available in both reinforced and unreinforced grades,

have been formulated to provide a wide range of properties such as high impact,

tight tolerance, elongation and high modulus while providing flame retardancy in the

V-2 to V-0 range at 0.4 mm and 5VB - 5VA, UL746C class F1, RTI up to 150°C

 

 

 

Many offer exceptional surface finish; all are easy molding, laser markability. Starflam grades

are covered by more than hundred UL yellow cards.   These advanced compounds are

made without halogen or red phosphorus, and combine superb flame resistance with

good stiffness, strength, toughness, tracking resistance, colorability and low density.

In addition, all grades provide the following performance values :


- Complete UL yellow cards, in all colors : 120 UL yellow cards

- Laser markability

- Comparative Tracking Index (CTI) of 600 volts

- Relative Temperature Index (RTI) of 120°C and up to 150°C
- F1 according to UL 746C
- WEEE compliance with no need to sort

Staramide range of UV stabilized enhanced flexible grades in PA 6, 66, 12.

 

With varying flexibility and impact. These grades find use mainly in cable ties of various specifications.

High flow grades are used for multi-cavity molding.

Flexural Modulus is available as low as 250 Mpa.

 

By using this information as a guide, the user will be better equipped to select the best suited cable tie and material to perform its intended function over a long period of time. Eurostar Engineering Plastics is launching new "ECR" Compounds

 

 

E2P has recently introduced “ECR” range, a new family of thermoplastics compounds showing a reduced carbon footprint. These new green compounds are based on 100 % recycled reinforcing agents or renewable fillers and have been designed to meet stringent application requirements with no performance compromise versus traditional fillers, they offer as well a cost effective solution while meeting the demand of using environmental friendly and sustainable materials in end user applications. ECR compounds contain at least 20 % of recycled reinforcing agent or recycled fillers including Glass Bead or Renewable Mineral Filler and are primarily available in PP and PA resins. Electrical & Electronic Industry

OEM involved are mainly global players, for them compliance with international standard is a must. Above the conformity to EU RoHS directive technical standards that might apply are IEC 60695, UL 94, UL 508, NF16-101 and 16-102 for instance.

Electrical equipments serve the industrial as the domestic markets.

Before being sold, a long phase of testing and homologation is needed but after approval the life cycle of those products is about 20 years. 

 

Infrastructure

Compounds are designed to produce massive injected parts, profiles or extruded pipes.

They find applications in stadium seats, or collective equipments such as theaters, cinemas schools …

The Starflam Xgen is also approved to produce seats frames for Buses and tramways.

The conductive and flame retardant properties of the extrudable grades make them suitable for metal pipes replacement applications in mines, reducing the risk of chemical corrosion, and electrostatic build up that is sometime responsible of fatal blown up in mines.

This material has shown to be a good replacement to zamak in locks.

 

Automotive

Polyamide compounds gained an increasing presence in all the auto industry from personal vehicles to trucks to meet the trend of weight decrease and assembly simplification.

Their outstanding chemical resistance to hydrocarbons makes them a good candidate for those applications.

The range of applications goes from electrical connectors to air filter boxes, oil filters, gas pedal, internal door handles, headlamps supporting frames, engine covers and batteries casing.

Data storage and consumer goods

On this market the fast model turn-around requires an intense development work.

The electrical connectors is a fraction of the application that covers, self lubricated gears or bearings.
